1. Way Finding & Proximity Push Notification
Information systems that guide people through a physical environment and benefits with self-navigation system using location beacons and its referred as way finding. This solution is particularly very useful in Indoor areas where there is absence of GPS.
Sports arenas, shopping malls, airports, campuses, logistics yards, hospitals, and industrial sites are often very large and difficult to navigate. If someone is delayed or lost traversing the facility the consequences can range in severity from lost revenue or time to loss of life. Employees, guests, contractors, public safety officers, and visitors can all go to their destinations quickly and unassisted using Way-Finding solution.
Proximity beacons also allows app to send notification to mobile devices that come within signal range of that beacons and referred as Proximity Push Notification
Aiports across the globe have millions of visitors who would be flying for the first time through that airport. Guiding the travellers through the gates, corridors and floors of these large scale Aiorports is a big challenge. The LBS solution using beacons offer a turn-by-turn navigation within the airport. Not just that, the passengers could also check flight timings, find their way to the taxi stand and pay for parking. These beacons also guided the first-time passengers to pharmacies and eating outlets at the airport.
Furthermore, the app also can send push notifications to the passenger’s smartphones, keeping them updated about the shortest security check queue and a real-time check on the flight status.

The hypermarket and Malls makes use of beacons to enable customers to receive notifications for wayfinding and promotions as they move through the store.

2. Asset tracking
Organizations worldwide lose millions of dollars every year on high-value items and inventory that are misplaced, lost or stolen. These challenges are particularly prevalent in industries like healthcare, where items such as IV pumps and heart defibrillators are easily misplaced, resulting in 25 percent of hospital staff’s time wasted looking for these assets1 and negatively impacting quality of care. In retail and warehousing, items that can’t be located quickly mean wasted time for employees, delayed order fulfillment for customers and often, a loss of revenue for the retailer.

- Tags are attached to the medical devices and tags also connected to the network.
- The tags periodically report their location over the wireless network.
- the BLE radios to the nearest Access Point pick up the signal of nearby tags.
- The data get updated to asset track app and can be viewed by the User.
- The data can also be used as an inventory list, for PAR-level management and to indicate the status of an item (available, being cleaned, etc).
- Tags can be easily moved from one asset to another reconfigured using the Tracking configuration app.

Components Of Aruba LBS Solution “Meridian”
Meridian is a mobile application IoT platform that provides self-guided wayfinding, geofencing, push messaging, and asset tracking services for a broad range of vertical applications. The system consists of the following components:
- Aruba Beacons
- A mobile application that runs on iOS or Android devices leveraging the Meridian Software Development Kit (SDK)
- Aruba Tags
- Meridian application or Software Development Kit (SDK) that run on iOS or Android devices
- Meridian cloud and Campaign services
Beacons and tags use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for mobile engagement and asset tracking. A beacons range is adjustable from roughly one centimeter to thirty meters. The mobile app updates its location with help from the cloud service, which can push messages back to the app – or update business applications – using the Meridian Campaign service. The cloud service can also remotely manage beacons by providing battery levels, allowing their range to be changed, and to globally update software.
Aruba Tags use BLE-enabled Aruba APs to locate tagged assets. The Meridian cloud service is leveraged for mapping and SDK services.

Indoor Navigation : A user using a Aruba Merdian powered App can get turn-by-turn indoor navigation to his/her place of interest like say conference room in a office, a particular store in a mall, a doctor’s cabin in hospital.
Proximity-based push notifications: When a mobile device with a Meridian-powered app is within range of Aruba Beacons, guests can receive personalized, proximity-aware push notifications based on their opt-in preferences.
